Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Presents: Birding the Border 2025

Join us for Birding the Border 2025 in the borderlands of southwest Texas for a unique educational birding experience! Upon arrival, you will learn about the area and expected species while enjoying a wonderful welcome social on Thursday, May 1st at 6:30 p.m. During the beginner track you will have the opportunity to bird both public lands and private ranches in a variety of habitats, with educational programs and a trade show during the heat of the day. You will travel with your guide Mike McDermott travel through the Edwards Plateau, South Texas Brush, and unique habitats of the Del Rio area to find target species such as golden-cheeked warbler, black-capped vireo, Morelet’s seedeater, black-tailed gnatcatcher, and all three species of kingfisher that occur in North America.
The scheduled trips for the beginner track include: Zuberbueler Ranch, Las Ciengas Ranch, and Dobbs Run Ranch. Participants who select the beginner track will stay together for the entirety of the program and do not need to register for trips individually or purchase a Birding the Border Registration pass.
Schedule:
5 – 6:30 AM: Depart for birding trips (depending on distance to site)
1 – 2 PM: Return host location from birding trips
3 - 5:30 PM: Trade Show open (Friday)
2:30 – 4:30 PM: Birding with Extension Seminars
6:30 PM: Evening Activities Start (Excludes Birds, Bats and Owls Benefit Dinner on Friday)
*Schedule & locations are subject to change based upon landowners, birds, and weather.
*Trips must have a minimum number of 8 participants registered. If a minimum of 8 participants is not met, participants will be reassigned to a trip with a similar habitat and similar target birds. Photography-focused trips must have a minimum of 5 participants. Participants will not be refunded or charged the cost difference if minimum number is not met and participants are reassigned.
